Camping is one of the most memorable experiences in scouting and a great opportunity to experience the outdoors. As Cub Scouts, all campouts are family affairs, meaning that everyone is welcome to join and that kids must camp with at least one parent/adult guardian.
All Pack 205 camping is in the "front-country", e.g. approved campsites with amenities such as running water and toilets, and accessible by car. This is a BSA requirement, as elementary-aged kids are generally not ready for the challenge of backcountry primitive camping.
The pack generally camps twice per year (in late September/early October and late April/early May). We also facilitate informal family campouts once a month during the summer for interested families. Webelos and AOL scouts may also camp as a den if they want to organize one, and also are encouraged to attend summer camp at the Goshen Scout Reservation.
What to Bring Camping?
Since we camp as a group, you don't have to bring as many things as you would on your own. So if you're new to camping, don't worry!
Every family needs to bring several basic items:
Tent
Sleeping Bags, pads/air mattress, pillows
Headlamps/Flashlights/Lanterns (battery powered)
Camp chairs (recommended)
Personal clothing and toiletries (be sure to check the weather)
For additional items that you may want to bring, check out the REI Camping Checklist. You won't need to bring everything on the list, to be sure, but if you have additional items like camp stoves, dutch ovens, cookware, etc. please let us know! We depend on various families to help pool the resources we need to make the campout a success.
The Pack generally provides meals during campouts, so be sure to let us know any dietary restrictions/allergies so that we can try and accommodate them.
Where do we go camping?
We typically camp in state or county-owned parks within 1-2 hours of Takoma Park. Recently, that has included Watkins Regional Park and numerous Maryland State Parks, including: Sandy Point, Calvert Cliffs, Smallwood, Greenbrier, Gunpowder Falls, Patapsco, Fort Frederick and Cedarville. We are open to suggestions if you have any particular recommendations for camping or overnighters in unique locations (like the USS Torsk submarine in Baltimore). Our campsites do have to be certified as meeting minimum standards, so if it's not on the BALOO-approved list already, let us know so that we can check it out.
For an example, see pictures of our camping trip to Calvert Cliffs State Park, Sept 27-29, 2019!
When is our next camping trip and how do I sign up?

Our Spring 2025 campout will be April 25-25 at Patapsco Valley State Park (Hilton Area).
